Intraday paper trading: practise day trades without the risk

Intraday trading moves fast, and every mistake costs money and charges. In ZeroStake you place intraday trades on NSE and BSE stocks, F&O and MCX with virtual money. The app squares off open intraday positions near the close, as a broker does, and shows the estimated charges on every trade.

What is intraday paper trading?

An intraday trade opens and closes on the same day. Intraday paper trading means you make these trades with virtual money at market prices. No order reaches an exchange, so you can learn the speed of the day without losing real money.

Intraday is hard. Prices move in minutes, charges come on every trade, and the close forces you out. Practice teaches you to plan the exit before the entry.

What can you trade intraday in ZeroStake?

Market Product types
NSE and BSE stocks Intraday or Longterm (delivery)
Index and stock F&O Intraday or Till Expiry
MCX commodities Intraday or Till Expiry

You pick the product type on the order. You start with ₹5 lakh of virtual money.

How do you place an intraday trade?

  1. Open the stock, future or option you want to trade.
  2. Choose Intraday as the product type.
  3. Mark your entry, stop-loss and target before you buy or sell.
  4. Place the order. On Trade on Chart, drag the stop-loss and target handles to your levels.
  5. Turn the stop into a trailing stop-loss if the price moves your way.
  6. Exit at your target, at your stop, or before the close.

The app sends a notification when a stop-loss triggers or a target is hit. Some order tools, such as limit orders, trailing stop-loss and GTT, need ZeroStake Pro, an optional plan in the app.

What happens at the close?

ZeroStake follows the rules a broker follows:

  • Auto square-off: if you leave an intraday position open, the app closes it near the end of the session and adds a square-off charge.
  • Closing auction: for F&O stocks, the app follows the closing auction session and tells you when it is on.
  • Market Timings: a screen in the app shows the session times for stocks, F&O and MCX, and the closing auction times for F&O stocks.
  • Convert Position: you can move an F&O position between intraday and carry forward.

Plan to exit before the square-off. A forced exit is a lesson that your plan had no end.

Why do charges matter so much for intraday?

Every trade in ZeroStake shows its estimated charges: brokerage, STT or CTT, exchange charges, the SEBI fee, stamp duty and GST. Many small intraday trades can turn a gross profit into a net loss.

In the P&L Statement, switch brokerage on or off to see its effect. With ZeroStake Pro, set your own broker’s brokerage for equity intraday, futures and options, so your practice costs match your account.

How do you make intraday practice honest?

In a basic simulator, every order fills at once at the last price. That makes a fast strategy look better than it is. Turn on LiveFill, a ZeroStake Pro tool, and orders can fill in parts and at a worse price. The app recommends Medium or Hard: “Easy can make a strategy look better than it will trade.”

Also trade the size you would trade with real money. A huge virtual account teaches habits you cannot afford.

How do you review your intraday trades?

  • P&L Statement: net and gross P&L, charges, win rate, profit factor, expectancy, drawdown, streaks, average hold and a P&L calendar.
  • Trade Journal: answer “Why did you take this trade?”, “Did you follow your plan?” and “What will you do differently next time?” for each closed trade.
  • Tags: tag your setups and mistakes, then see your win rate and P&L by tag.

Review once a day, after the close. Look for one mistake you repeat, and fix only that one next week.

Can you practise intraday after market hours?

Yes. Historical Replay plays past NIFTY 50, BANK NIFTY and SENSEX sessions candle by candle, in futures or options. Pick a candle interval from 1 minute to 4 hours and a speed up to 5x, or up to 24x with ZeroStake Pro. Replay positions stay in Replay, so your main P&L stays clean.
